NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse
The NCAA Division I initial-eligibility rules are changing!
For your information, please be aware that beginning with the class of 2009, students will be required to present a minimum of 16 core courses to the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse. Upon graduation, in order to qualify for athletically related financial aid, practice and competition in their first year of collegiate enrollment at an NCAA Division I institution, these requirements must be met.
After graduation from high school in the spring of 2008, the final certification report, which is based on the academic record from grades 9 through 12, will be evaluated under the new rule. It is not possible to mix and match rules.
The New Rule
- APPLIES to those students first entering a collegiate institution on or after August 1, 2008.
- INCREASES the number of core courses from 14 to 16. The additional core courses must come from the following areas: English, mathematics, natural/physical science, social science, foreign language, philosophy or non-doctrinal religion. The breakdown of core course requirements is listed below.

TEST SCORES: Please note that only test scores achieved under national testing conditions on a national testing date are acceptable for initial-eligibility purposes. The NCAA Clearinghouse will not accept scores achieved on state-administered, residential (campus) or regional testing dates, even if scores from these tests may be used to meet admissions requirements.
MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE RULE: Please note that the Mountain West Conference (www.theMWC.com) has a non-qualifier rule. Students who are certified as non-qualifiers by the NCAA Clearinghouse and whose first-time collegiate enrollment occurs at a MWC institution on or after the Fall of 2003 are permanently ineligible for practice, competition and athletically related financial aid.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION: In Division II, there is no Sliding scale. The Minimum core grade-point average is 2.000. The minimum SAT score is 820 and the minimum ACT sum score is 68.
