Student Assistance Programs

Counselors

At Paola Middle School, each student is assigned to a counselor.  The counselor's job is to assist students with any problems related to school, whether it is in the area of academics or social adjustments.  The counselors request that parents let them know of any dramatic changes at home or school that may affect the student.  Examples would be the death of a family member or pet, divorce or separation, or problems with a sibling or other classmates.  Please encourage your child to talk to their counselor when needed.

Groups

Groups are available for a wide variety of reasons. These are organized through the counselors’ offices. Referrals are obtained from students themselves, parents, staff, and administrators.

YouthFriends

The YouthFriends Program connects volunteers from the community with students in our school. Students are recommended by parents, teachers, or the students themselves to be paired with a mentor. The Youth Friends come to our building each week to serve as mentors, academic coaches, and buddies.
