CHOIR REQUIREMENTS

The Choir at Paola Middle School is an auditioned choir, which meets on alternating days with Band for 50 minutes. Choir meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the full period and Fridays for 25 minutes.

Choir auditions are held in the spring for the following year. The criteria for choir member selections are: attitude, behavior, and voice production. The literature chosen for each year is varied, but is a well-rounded list. The students perform in a fall, winter, and spring concert. We are hosting our own contest in February with choirs, ensembles, and solos participating. Each choir member is required to purchase a Choir t-shirt (approximately $12.00) and pants that complete the uniform. A new shirt is purchased each year.

SEMINAR/BAND/CHOIR

Unless students are enrolled in band or choir, they will be assigned to a Seminar (study lab) for their third hour period. One of their academic teachers will also be their teacher for Seminar. The first part of this period is usually spent silent reading. The remainder of the class is open to completing homework assignments. Grades for Seminar will be “S” for satisfactory and “U” for unsatisfactory.

Remember, if you are in band or choir, you don’t have a study lab. Be sure that you can balance all your school responsibilities.

Students requiring extra classroom help periodically may be excused from Band or Choir with written permission from the academic teacher and music teacher.
