Drama Club
2022-2023 Drama Club Information
FAQs and Information About the Drama Club at PHS
1. WHY DO THEATRE?
Theatre allows you to use virtually everything you know and every skill you have, and constantly
requires you to learn new information and acquire new skills.
What you will learn by doing theatre will benefit you no matter what you end up doing for the rest of your life.
Check out the links below for more information about the benefits:

Plus it's fun!
2. WHAT DOES THE PHS DRAMA CLUB DO?
We are planning a set of workshops before school starts.
The PHS Drama Club produces the plays which are performed publicly at Paola High School, usually
four major productions a year. Members of the Drama Club do all of the work involved with the productions.
Members of the Drama Club also travel to: [none is required, but it is available to members]
Professional productions several times during the year
The Kansas Thespian Conference in January [Thespians is the international organization for high school theatre]
The International Thespian Festival in the summer [It's international, but it is held in Lincoln, Nebraska]
We have an improv troupe which performs several times a year.
We do community service, specifically TRICK OR TREAT SO KIDS CAN EAT
3. DO I HAVE TO ACT TO BE IN DRAMA CLUB?
No! In fact, most productions involve 4-5 technical or support personnel for every single actor on the stage. The tech and various production sides of theatre are not as glamorous as the acting side, but the opportunities are MUCH wider both at PHS and the real world.
4. IF I JOIN, WHAT DO I ACTUALLY HAVE TO DO?
Attend meetings, generally one a month, or read the minutes and sign in. Be involved in some way in every production at PHS - attendance counts as being involved. Sell one season tiecket or work on some project that makes Drama Club at least $10 per person involved.
5. HOW DO I JOIN?
You fill out the sign up information form and pay your dues. It's simple.
Dues are set up on a sliding scale depending on how soon you sign up.
Dues are $1.00 during enrollment or any other day before school starts.
They are $2.00 Aug 17-19 (freshman and new students day through the end of that week)
They are $3.00 from Aug 20-26. After Friday, August 26, dues become $5.00 for the rest of the year.
Have a good year.
